Family, Labour and Social Services Minister Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK spoke at the opening of the Ministerial Conference for Social Development of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministers responsible for Social Development, which was attended by President ERDOGAN, was the 1st President of the United Nations. Minister SELCUK: 'Strong Is Not Right, Right is Strong'

Minister SELÇUK emphasized that about 15 percent of the world's population isdisabled, and said: "In Turkey, about 7 percent of the total population has an obstacle. Althoughthe Sustainable Development Goals have been cited 11 times for individuals with disabilities and disability, individuals with disabilities are also in the position of achieving many of thetargets. In this context, I am proud to express that our government took the first big step in 2005 by strengthening the legal ground with the Law on The About Disabled.

In 2007, our President, Mr.  Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, signed the UN Convention on the Rights of the Disabled, and turkey was among the first countries to sign theagreement. As with all our policies, we take a family-oriented approach to our disabled people. We prioritize ensuring that they are taken care of with their families as long as possible. In 2019 alone, we provided about $1.2 billion in home care support to more than half a million disabled citizens.

Thanks to our encouraging policies, we have reduced employment quotas for individuals with disabilities in the public and private sector. We serve our disabled citizens in our 352 care centers throughout Turkey. We strive to spread accessibility towards our obstacles in our country by saying 'Dreams Are Unhindered'."

In 2050, one in 5 people in Turkey is predicted to be over 65 years old

Minister SELÇUK "In 2050, we predict that one in five people in Turkey will be over 65 years of age. In this context, in implementing the 2030 agenda, we need to accelerate our preparations to ensure that all age groups can be considered as active elements of social development and to meet the needs of our demographically changing populations."

After the opening speeches, Minister SELCUK presented a painting to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
